Clearing the Air: Healthier Alternatives to Air Fresheners

CleanAir

Air quality for so many of us is as bad as it’s been in ages…or perhaps even in our lifetimes.

The air is thick with smoke, and the scent of burning permeates our homes…so what are we often tempted to do? Make things smell better? Yep.

My biggest advice right now, no matter how bad your home stinks, is to please not light candles in your home to get rid of the smell of smoke. Most candles, even the “natural” ones are made with chemicals and toxins that are released into the air while burning.

Adding more carcinogens to the air in your home can lead to toxin overload and respiratory distress. Not the best time for that!

Using air filtration systems is optimal, and if you happen to have essential oil diffusers, try running them round the clock in your homes. (I saw a friend post a picture of her air quality monitor in the living area that had the numbers go from 329 to 38 within an hour of diffusing Raven blend and Lemon essential oil. Impressive? Yes!)

Please also note that not all oils are created equally. I prefer Young Living oils since they have a promise of purity from seed to final production. No fillers, no synthetic ingredients, and sustainably farmed. Most oils you find on Amazon or the local shops are synthetic and, like candles, will release toxins in your air.

Some oils that best support your respiratory system and can be used to diffuse in a smokey home include:

-Idaho Blue Spruce
-Peppermint
-Melaleuca (Tea Tree)
-Frankincense
-Pine
-Rosemary
-Eucalyptus
-Thyme
-Oregano
-Thieves
-Lemon
-Raven
-R.C.
-Spearmint
-Clary Sage
-Copaiba
-Lavender
-Clarity
-Purification

You can diffuse all of them separately or create your own blends according to what smells best to you. 5-6 drops of each oil in your diffuser is about right.

Your home will smell fantastic, the air quality will improve, and your respiratory system will be supported as well.

Since there is some concern regarding using essential oils around pets, here is a good link that gives a helpful overview on which ones to use and avoid around your furry companions: Essential Oils and Your Pets.

If you’d like to purchase Young Living essential oils for use now, or to have on hand…..since lord knows we can all use some immune and respiratory support, we seem to deal with fires a lot more now than before, and some of us have teenaged sons that stink up the house inexplicably….check out My Young Living Shop!
